Skyloop is a small game made by one family. This page explains, in plain English, what the game keeps and why. We keep as little as we can.
- No ads, and no advertising or analytics tools in the game
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing data for marketing
- No chat. Players can't send each other messages.
- No loot boxes and nothing random to buy. The Google Play version has one optional purchase, the Full game (see below). The web version has no purchases at all.
- No accounts or passwords. No location or contacts are read. Photos and the microphone are used only if a player aged 13 or older chooses to add a picture or a voice clip to a bug report.
What stays on your device
Your career saves (money, drones, jobs, settings) are stored only on your phone or in your browser. We can't see them. Export and Import make a save file that you keep yourself.
What our server stores
The game has one small online server. It is used for multiplayer, the weekly Challenge scoreboard and bug reports.
- Player name: the name you pick. It is shown to other players in multiplayer and on the Challenge scoreboard. Rude names are replaced with "Guest". Please don't use your real full name.
- Player ID: a random code made by the game on your device, for example
p3f9c…. It links your scores to your device without knowing who you are. - Challenge scoreboard: your best lap time, number of laps and drone speed for each Challenge. If you play the Challenge from a career save, the save's random Challenge ID is kept too, so prize money can reach that save.
- Multiplayer: while you play online, the server knows your name, your drone and where it is flying. That is held in memory for the match only. The server log notes the name when someone joins, so we can fix problems.
- Internet address (IP): used for a few minutes to stop spam (for example, too many bug reports at once). It is not saved.
Bug reports
The Report a bug form is optional. The first time you open it, it asks for your year of birth. That year is kept only on your device; a report just says "under 13" or "13 or older".
Every report includes what you type, your player ID and automatic game details: the game version, the Android or browser version and screen size, which screen, map and mode you were on, your drone and its parts, where your drone was, and any recent game errors.
Players under 13 can only send text. No pictures, files or sound can be added, and no player name is sent. If an older version of the game sends files with an under-13 report, our server throws them away.
Players 13 or older can also choose to add a picture (such as a screenshot) and record a short voice clip (up to 60 seconds), and the report includes their player name. The game asks for microphone permission only when you tap Record a voice clip, and only records while the button says it is recording. The microphone is not used anywhere else in the game.
The form never asks for your email address.
Bug reports are delivered to our own Google account (Google Sheets, Drive and Gmail) so we can read them. Google stores them for us under its own privacy terms.
The Full game purchase (Google Play version only)
The Google Play version is free up to the intermediate drone parts. A one-off Full game purchase opens the rest (upgrades beyond Intermediate, the full championships, hosting multiplayer games and the extra missions). Joining friends' games is always free, and nothing you have already earned is ever taken away.
- Google Play handles the payment. We never see your card, bank or Google account details. Google's own privacy policy covers the payment.
- When you buy, the game may send the purchase's Google Play purchase token (a long random code, not your name or card) to our server, which asks Google whether it is a real, paid purchase. The token is checked and then forgotten. It is not saved or logged.
- The game remembers on your device that you own the Full game. Restore purchases asks Google Play again, for example on a new phone. If a purchase is refunded, the Full game locks again, but your saves, parts and progress stay.
How your data travels
When you play online, the app talks to our server over an encrypted connection (https and secure websockets). The server runs on our own computer at home, reached through Tailscale.
Games on the same Wi‑Fi (Nearby games, where one phone hosts) connect directly between the devices on that network and don't go through our server. That local connection is not encrypted, so other devices on the same Wi‑Fi could see the game traffic: player names, drone positions and race results. Only play Nearby games on a Wi‑Fi network you trust. Nothing from a Nearby game is sent to us.
How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Career saves | On your device until you delete them. We never have a copy. |
| Current Challenge scores | Until that Challenge ends |
| Past Challenge results | At most the last 200 Challenges. Older ones are deleted automatically (checked every day). The game admin can choose to keep fewer. |
| Prize money waiting for a save | Until the save collects it |
| Bug reports | Until the problem is dealt with, and no longer than 12 months. Older reports, their files and the email copies are deleted automatically every day. The game admin can choose a shorter limit. |
| Server logs (player names when joining) | About 30 days. Older logs are removed automatically. |
| Multiplayer position and drone | Only during the match |
| Google Play purchase token (Full game) | Not kept. Checked with Google, then forgotten. |
Deleting your data
In the game, open Settings → Privacy → Delete my data (also on the save screen). It asks you to confirm first. Then it deletes your Challenge scores, waiting prize money and bug reports from our server, and clears the saves on that device. You can also email us. See Delete my data.
Children
Skyloop is made to be fine for all ages. It has no chat, no ads and no loot boxes, and the only thing other players see is your chosen player name. The Google Play version has one optional Full game purchase; Google Play can ask a parent to approve purchases (Family Link or purchase authentication in the Play Store settings). Parents can ask us to delete a child's data at any time using the email below.
